Birding Site Guide
The park contains 3 mountain ranges, with both broadleaf and pine forests. There are many places to stay outside the park. Inside the park it is possible to camp.
Over 180 species of birds have been recorded in the area, but only about 25 of these are permanent residents. Passage birds include passage waders and waterbirds, others are more regular: Red-necked and Horned Grebe, Mallard and Ring-necked Duck and American Coot, Northern Goshawk, Great Horned Owl, Boreal Owl, Great Gray Owl, Ruffed Spruce Grouse, Blue Grouse, Willow and White-tailed Ptarmigan, Black-backed Woodpecker, Hairy Woodpecker, Three-toed Woodpecker, Northern Woodpecker, Black-capped Chickadee, Mountain Chickadee and Boreal Chickadee, Bohemian Waxwing, Blackpoll Warbler, Grey Jay, Black-billed Magpie, Common Raven Evening and Pine Grosbeaks, Grey-crowned Rosy Finch and Red and White-winged Crossbills.
Other Fauna
Moose, Grizzly Bear, Wolves, Caribou, Weasels, American Mink, Otters, Beaver, Columbian Ground-Squirrels, Hoary Marmots, several hares, Porcupines and many mice, shrews and voles.
