Birding Site Guide

This rightly famous birding locality should be high on every birders list in this part of Brazil. It is located 270km sw of São Paulo in the Serra de Paranapiacaba. It is one of a string of joined protected areas (see accounts on BSG) and on the ne joins Carlos Botelho SP and on the n by the small Xitué Ecological Station. On the sw it is joined by Turístico do Alto Ribeira SP. The total of these protected areas is a substantial 120,000ha of Atlantic forest.

To get to Intervales travel on the SP127 to Capão Bonito then to Ribeirão Grande. The nearest town is Guapiara on the SP250. There is a place to stay, which can be booked in advance on the phone numbers below. It is a series of 4 hospedarias, each of which can house a small group.
