Birding Site Guide
By car, leave Vitória traveling along the BR-101 highway and take the North direction. Thirty kilometers after the bridge over the Rio Doce river, located at the town of Linhares, and four kilometers after the town of Sooretama, you will find the main gate of the Reserve, at the right side of the road. This trip takes some two hours. Coming from Bahia, watch out for the signpost on the BR-101 highway near KM122, indicating the entrance to the reserve.
By bus, any bus leaving Vitoria or other towns whose route follows the BR-101 highway traveling towards Northern Espirito Santo state or Southern Bahia passes the main gate to the Reserve. It is open to visitors from 7.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.. The entrance fee is R$ 5.00 (children under 10 years old) and R$ 7,00 (adults).
The Vale do Rio Doce Natural Reserve is equipped with complete visitor accommodation facilities at a varying rates. All air-conditioned, they are named after local botanical families: Arecaeae, Bignoniaceae, Lauraceae and
Framed by spacious verandahs, each of these sixteen rooms sleeps two people; fitted with TV, telephone, air conditioning and minibar.

In all --- species of bird have so far been recorded. The different soils here compared to the adjoining Sooretama Biological Reserve, not only influences the flora but also the fauna. Some species of bird are found here but not at Sooretama and vice versa.
Sought After Species
Of the 369 species recorded so far some of the most sought after species include Red-billed Curassow and Harpy Eagle.
