Birding Site Guide
Merín lagoon, which is the 3rd largest in S. America, is situated in the far s of Brazil and is shared with Uruguay. Taim Ecological Station is located on the ne shore between Merín Lagoon and the more eastern Mangueira Lagoon. Here studies include biological studies, particularly marine, remote sensing and earth sciences. There is a joint conservation program with Uruguay.

This is an excellent site for observing migration with thousands of birds (particularly aquatic and shore birds) passing through. BIRD LIST TO BE ADDED SOON

There are -- recorded species of amphibians and reptiles.
Flora Due to the many habitats the flora is very diverse and is known for the plants such as the rare (in Brazil) palm Butia capitata. Threats include huge extensions to rice fields and eucalyptus plantations, though the situation has improved with more designations.
