Birding Site Guide

This private reserve is important in Ecuador for Tumbesian endemics and near endemics (see BENES list of that name, maybe in prep.). The reserve lies close to the city of Guayaquil, about 18km to the e on the main road to Salinas on the coast, the nearest villages being Casas Viejas and Chogón. Lake Chogón is near the latter, while the Puerto Hondo mangroves are a few km s. At Cerro Blanco there is a visitor centre with guard, where you can pay to enter or stay at the basic accommodation, though you will have to bring your own food and camp stove. If you have no stove, you bring enough food for the guard/s as well you may be able to arrange for them to cook for all, but ask first. There are 2 rooms and a camping area.
