Birding Site Guide

Follow A1 towards Edinburgh, but about 10 miles before here turn n at Haddington on A6137 (North Bewick) towards Aberlady. Turn e (right) on A198 for around 3 miles to where there is a long sweeping northward bend. At this inlet on the bend is a small parking area and small toilet block. From here bird the marshes from the road side and also head over the wooden foot bridge from near the toilets over the creek and bird from the paths.

This area has thousands of wintering Pink-footed Geese and large numbers of Golden Plover, Lapwing and other waders and ducks. Across the road is a private estate with large areas of native scrubs and woodland which must attract migrants and can be birded from the roadside. Also check the sea for sea ducks and other marine species from Gullane Point at the n end of the bay.
