This dry steppe area is threatened due to irrigation, intensive farming and over-grazing and some of its birds have been added to Europe's red list of endangered species such as Little Bustard, Stone-curlew and Pin-tailed Sandgrouse. Roller and Southern Grey Shrike, can be found in orchards as well as their natural habitat.
