Lots of links to many sites but somewhat out of date.
Deanbirders
Deanbirders are a group of birders in the Forest of Dean area. The group has some less able members and the website focuses on places and activities for the less mobile. As well as birding activities the group keeps comprehensive records and runs schemes promoting bird boxes and feeding stations.

BATUMI RAPTOR COUNT . A component of the project now in full development is ecotourism. Local families are organizing lodges for visitors. This generates income either for the locals and for the project itself. Developing tourism within local families acts against propension to poaching, appearently the greatest threat to migrants around Batumi.
International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN)
The IUCN provide the longest running and most widely used list of threatened species there is. Search the database for any threatened species and get up to date information. Information is collect from expert individuals and organisations from around the world, the Red List Authority for birds is BirdLife International. The IUCN use their own categories to identify the levels of threat.
International Convention on the Trade in Endangered Species (CITES)
Search for any species listed as restricted or forbidden to trade. Also has a useful links page to other websites covering other important international conventions on natural and cultural resources.

World List of Protected Areas
This list is produced by the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP), The World Conservation Union (IUCN), and World Commission on Protected Areas (WCPA). They produce the World list of Protected Areas and the more comprehensive World Database on Protected Areas (WDPA) for 1993, 1997 and 2004. Note the latter has to be downloaded; it contains some huge shape files and requires a GIS ArcReader or similiar type program to read. Clicking on the 2003 list can access statistics for the 2003 list but the list itself is not there, the file is in Adobe format.

Has info on all 28,500 marine fish species known to science on the website. This has an amazing searchable database, far exceeding anything for birds or anything I have seen. The same info is available on FishBase 2004 DVD or CD-ROMs. It comes together with the FishBase 2000 book and can be ordered for US$95 including air-mail. The links page is very good.

The world’s most detailed database on species distribution, this massive resource has up to date maps of all land vertebrates. It is possible to search by different criteria. The map also covers all the worlds biomes in great detail and the area where a species occurs can be clicked to find info on the biome it is present in.
NatureServe; InfoNatura
This is a US website with versions also in Spanish and Portuguese. The main facility of this website is to give distributional information through up to date maps for all the Neotropics, but it is also a VISUAL AID with photos of many species. It is possible to search by different criteria. Two maps for each species are given, the top map only shows which countries the species in question occurs in, it is not a detailed range map. The detailed range map is below the first map, and you will need to scroll down to view it.
