Birding Site Guide

Shivpuri Watershed and Wildlife Reserve is situated 11km north of Kathmandu, and can be reached by taxi, the gates open at 08.00 (entry fees Rs.250). However it is possible to plead with the guards to get in earlier as we did. Taxis will take you up the mountain as far as the monastery, from here up the vegetation get better, and is less cut for firewood and it is possible to bird all the way to the summit. There can be many people around, so finding birds can be difficult, but it is worth being persistent.
