Birding Site Guide

Most state parks only open during the day and many state parks only open on a weekend, check the info links for visiting times.

It is located 180km s of São Paulo. It is one of a string of joined protected areas (see accounts on BSG) and on the se joins Intervales SP and on the n by the small Xitué Ecological Station. To the sw is Turístico do Alto Ribeira SP. The total of these protected areas is a substantial 120,000ha of Atlantic forest.

Nearest towns are São Miguel Arcanjo (where admin for the park is), Capão Bonito, Tapirai and Sete Barras. Places to stay are to be found in the towns or if you want to stay in (or right on the edge of) the state park there is Zizo RPPN (private reserve), which is located 20km se off SP264 from São Miguel Arcanjo. The accommodation is rustic with all modern facilities and located in the middle of primary forest. The place can sleep 20 people with food provided.

Species At Zizo 200 species have so far been recorded from a potential of 400 in the area, and the state park is similarly under-recorded with 220 species. Other Fauna

Rare mammals include Spider Monkey Brachyteles arachnoids, and Puma Felis concolor


There are -- recorded species of amphibians and reptiles. 


Flora The park is famed for the palm Euterpe edulis.
