Birding Site Guide

This is a shade coffee plantation just an hour by regular buses from Volcan. There are several places to stay and eat in Volcan. We stayed at Oasis Place ($15 for a double). The first bus towards Rio Sereno (at the Panamanian border) leaves at 6.30am. The Hartman Family are very friendly towards birdwatchers. They charge a $10 fee for birding the finca and provide some drinks. They also have a small museum and shop selling coffee. There is a trail that leads through the coffee plantations and also through a small area of woodland. I didn't see my target species, the Turquoise Cotinga although it is readily seen here and was apparently seen the previous day by a group of American birders. grrr... I saw 60 species including 3 lifers.
