SEEDS OF DEATH DOCUMENTARY
GMOS OR JUST GM ARE GENETICALLY MODIFIED ORGANISMS. IF YOU LIVE IN UK, EU OR USA AND EAT MEAT OR DAIRY PRODUCTS YOU ARE ALMOST CERTAINLY ALREADY EATING GMO DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY. IF YOU DO NOT SEE A PROBLEM WITH GM THEN YOU OBVIOUSLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE ISSUES, READ ON AND YOU WILL!

In all countries GMOs are legal to be eaten directly by humans or to be fed to dairy or meat livestock produced for human consumption, in the US nothing has to be labelled. In EU (including UK) GMO for direct human consumption (plant products) has to be labelled, but meat and dairy products produced using GMO animal feeds need no labelling at all. Furthermore most animal feed worldwide for intensive rearing is now GMO. So unless it specifically is certified non-GMO by the retail chain or say by an organic certification, it almost certainly will contain GMO. Most meat and dairy products in most supermarkets in EU and US have been fed mostly on GMO crops (mainly corn and soy). You may not want to be eating these products after reading the rest of this article. How to avoid them is given at the end. All UK supermarkets have caved in to GM producers and have own brands of meat and dairy products fed on GM feeds, these supermarkets include Marks & Spencer, Co-Op and Iceland. This is despite GM free soy being easy and cheaply available in enough quantities from countries such as Brazil, who say they have enough GM free soy for all the EU needs and more, supermarkets in France and Germany where the ban still holds for many shops use this source.

ALL UK SUPERMARKETS NOW SELL OWN BRAND MEAT & DIARY PRODUCTS FED ON GM. From personal research I know this includes includes Marks & Spencer, Co-Op, Iceland and all the others too. In Germany and France some supermarkets can make this guarantee. The Red Tractor logo in UK is no guarantee either. The only easy way to avoid GM is to eat organic certified products.

These GMOs are organisms that nature could never produce, because they do not use nature’s reproductive isolation methods where different species cannot cross-fertilize. Instead they use laboratory methods to extract DNA directly from one species to another and meddle with it until the new mutant species survives and displays the wanted characters of both parents. Because these mutant animals and plants are not natural, there are obviously well founded safety concerns about humans eating them or humans eating animals which have been fed on them.

Farming methods worldwide only had until recently one method of improving the quality of their crops or livestock; that is their yield and resistance to pests and diseases and ability to cope with challenging environmental factors. This method was selective breeding. The best plants or beasts from each generation were selected and kept to provide the stock for the next year. If one variety of plant or animal had one particularly good quality (say high yield) and another variety of the same species had another good quality (say resistance to a certain pathogen) these could be mated together in the conventional way by sex for animals or transfer of pollen (by bees or human hand) for plants with the resulting offspring having hopefully the combined qualities of both parents. Hopefully, because even with such seemingly straight forward crossing the new strain or hybrid may not develop the wanted qualities or may develop them and other unwanted qualities as well, we will discuss why later. Hybrids were often fertile and able to produce their own fertile offspring indefinitely, but some hybrids may be infertile or lose some of the newly acquired qualities within a generation or two. To counter this loss therefore every crop may have to be crossed from the original two different varieties every time, producing what is called the F1 stock or first generation stock.

Farmers could not cross qualities between species however, only between closely related varieties. This is because different species cannot interbreed, that is why they are different species. So farmers could not get resistance to a bug from say lavender and transfer it to say a potato (though from time to time some cross-species freaks do occur in nature).

Because varieties are already pretty much alike to start with, it is pretty straightforward to predict the likely outcomes. If you cross two varieties of potatoes, you will still get a potato. It will look the same (the skin colour may change) and taste the same (the texture may change a little) and it will still have the same chemical make-up. Your body will digest it and use the same chemicals from it as it did from any other potato before. The outcome of growing it and eating it involves no risk as all the factors are known and understood and have been for most foods for hundreds if not thousands of years (even if some foods were at first only eaten by small numbers of indigenous tribes to start with). There are no nasty surprises to be had.

GMOs differ from the above conventional methods of improvement in a fundamental way; they could not occur in nature. This is because conventional methods of fertilization are by-passed; there is no sex or pollination. Instead scientists go straight to the DNA of an animal or plant, identify the genome section that has the traits they want for another species and using enzymes cut the proteins of the DNA to extract the strand. They then cut the DNA of the host species (the species they want to improve or modify) at the section where this function may occur in the DNA and insert this alien extracted section in and hope the host survives. It may take hundreds of thousands of attempts to get it to work the way they want. The mixing can take place not just between different species, such as two different mammals but also between different Classes of life such as between a plant and a mammal. A couple of examples already commercially viable are spider DNA inserted into goats to create milk containing spider silk protein which can then be extracted. Another is a fungus DNA which has been inserted into corn (sweet corn) to kill a pest species.

The problem with GMO methods is that though the scientist may have found the DNA with the characteristic they want to give their new mutant species, they do not know what other traits they are inadvertently passing on. This is because each genome in the DNA can be responsible for a whole host of traits, some desirable and some definitely not. Some of these traits may be dormant in the species they naturally occur in but may be activated when inserted into a certain point in a new section of DNA of a different species. The trouble is genetic research is so expensive and the rules, regulations and laws so lax and corrupt that the GMO companies only spend money identifying and transferring the DNA with the wanted trait without looking into any possible complications from other unknown traits. These unknown traits can be extremely bad and very possibly deadly if independent studies over a longer term than 6 months are to be believed, and the evidence is mounting that they should be. They definitely cause infertility, cancer and major genetic disorders. They also have been proved to cause immune system problems, accelerated aging, inability to properly regulate insulin in the body, and harmful changes in the major organs of the body as well as the entire gastrointestinal system. No independent study has ever found any GM to be safe. Read below and follow the links to find out more.

Before you think you can just avoid GM and therefore any risks think again. In the US GM products do not have to be labelled at all. In the EU they do but only if for human consumption. If it is imported animal feed that comes to the EU, then 90+% of it is GM corn or soy and this can be fed to the animals here in the UK and EU which we then eat without any labelling. Some people (for instance the Red Tractor logo people who told me) will say all GM proteins are broken down from the animal feed to the animal and so are not passed on to human animal product eaters. This may or may not be true but I would think the far bigger concern is the passing on of persistent toxins from the plant feeds to the animal to humans and this would include the deadly toxic Round-Up, which many GM crops are designed to be resistant to so they can be sprayed liberally with the stuff. Some are even engineered to contain pesticides in their cells, killing pests that bite them. Round-Up is a serious poison; it was claimed by Monsanto to be safe for humans because it disrupts a biochemical pathway that is present in target plants but not human cells. But this was not true, the same chemical pathway is present in most of the beneficial bacterial of our healthy digestive systems. Round-Up is the poison of choice for farmers who see no way out of the debt spiral caused by adopting GM crop growing (in Indian, numbering many thousands!). Specifically Round-Up can cause leaky gut and irritable bowel problems and prevent the uptake of vital vitamins and minerals by your body, the latter is caused by RNA from the GM crop altering the RNA (and ultimately your DNA) in your gut. The only cure (if any, the damage is often irreversible) as they are finding out in the US is to go on a GM free diet, not easy when these products are not labelled. Round-Up is endocrine-disrupter and highly carcinogenic in concentrations of parts per trillion. The way around this is to buy organic and products that have been certified as not containing GM (such as grass fed meat and dairy). Such latter mentioned products are enjoying a remarkable surge in sales as manufacturers who choose to go through the process of proving their products GM free typically experience a 15% increase in sales. Products in this category are therefore experiencing the largest sector growth in the whole food industry.

Roundup is endocrine-disrupting, cancer-causing toxin at parts per trillion levels; GM soybeans also linked to causing cancer

Possible health effects are not even the worst or only cause for concern. It gets far worse for a person trying to avoid GMOs because GMOs can in many cases accidently (by insect or wind) cross-fertilize with conventionally bred crops and that includes heirloom and organic crops too. And unlike you would logically imagine, the farmers that get contaminated cannot sue the GMO companies for contamination of their crops, no! It is the exact opposite, the conventional farmers get sued by the GMO companies for illegal use of their patented mutant species, even though the conventional farmer never wanted it in the first place. Crazy yes! but why are the above points so in favour of the GMO companies? Also banned and supposedly eradicated GM crops are re-appearing in the wild and in fields, there is no putting the genie back in the bottle.

Indeed congress recently passed a law stating GMO companies could not be prosecuted for anything, they had immunity to do as they wish. This unprecedented and illegal piece of legislation caused a mass global outcry against Monsanto and others with hundreds of thousands of protesters involved. If you are not yet worried and think fears are unfounded please note GMO products are totally banned in both the US White House (brought in by Bush junior!) and by the UK Houses of Parliament and even in Monsanto's own canteens! and yet they want to force them on us no questioned asked. Now read on it gets worse yet!

GM food banned in Monsanto's own canteens!!!!

A huge problem with GMOs is they have never been proven to do anything claimed and if they have it usually isn’t for long. They never increase yields and often fail altogether as cases from the developing world clearly show, yet the GMO companies take no responsibility and offer no compensation. So why are GMO companies so keen to push these useless products? Well it is because it is a scam, a trap for farmers who once they start using GM seed and sprays cannot get out of. They become forever stuck with buying products and seed from the same company, which is just what the GM companies want. Read on further to see how this is done.

GM FAILURE LINKS:

GM crops fail

No Germination

Furthermore their GM engineered resistance to pesticides and herbicides such as Monsanto’s Round-Up is often only a fleeting only a as nature’s bugs and weeds develop resistance to these sprays very fast if exposed to them frequently and often, which with GM crops they are. Such crops are routinely sprayed with poison every week, far more than regular crops, this also means vast amounts of water are used; around 10x that which is used on conventional crops. This negates any possible beneficial claims of drought resistance in GM organisms. GM crops often contain DNA from other organisms to make them immune to pesticides and herbicides such as Round-Up, so they can be drenched in it to get rid of bugs and weeds. Unfortunately this means massive increases in dosage of these pesticides and herbicides and they then go on to damage the environment, wildlife (including fish) and ground water. The chemicals in Round-Up are very persistent and in many areas many people have levels in their blood and urine well above the scientifically accepted safety levels. To make matters worse, for a long time Monsanto lied about the toxicity of Round-Up to non-target organisms, claiming it was completely safe and broke down quickly with contact with the soil. Except they got found out and had to change the labels.

The fallacy of the argument that GM are being used to feed the world's burgeoning population can be laid bare in seconds. The UN (amongst many others) state that enough food is produced for the whole world human population from just the annual US corn crop alone without considering any other crop. In total they estimate enough food is grown worldwide to feed 11.3 billion people, more than enough for everyone if politics and lack of good will didn’t get in the way. The reason it does not feed the rest of the world is because most goes as animal feed, and meat as a human food source takes around six times more plant input (depending on feed) than humans eating the plant food direct (on calories). Also much corn goes to make very inefficient biofuel (Hemp could be grown on the same land with less inputs and produce three to four times the amount of bio-diesel which can be directly used in existing internal combustion engines unlike the biofuel from corn which has to be blended with petro-chemicals). Another reason we don't feed the world is because of the massive amount of over-eating in Western society and the one-third of food we further simply waste (right from harvesting when ‘ugly fruit’ is discarded to the stupid literal interpretation of the out of date labelling, to simply being left on the plate). There is also not enough political or public will to simply give all the food forever to countries which cannot feed themselves, especially if they have no form of family planning.

YOU CANNOT SOLVE HUMAN FAMINES BY JUST FEEDING PEOPLE

HEMP: WHY WAS & OFTEN STILL IS THE WORLD’S MOST USEFUL PLANT BANNED?

Farmers who grow GM often find no benefit at all, especially in Third World, but grow the crop because as stated above as they have gotten their crops contaminated from other GM growers and then get sued by the GMO companies for illegal use of their patented mutant species, even though the conventional farmer never wanted it in the first place. This means the farmer has to either go GM anyway to avoid it happening again, or in paying up goes bankrupt and gets his farm seized by the GM company. This policy is very aggressively pursued by Monsanto. Other farmers choose to grow GM because of the lies the GMO companies tell and because the first seed batch is heavily discounted or free. It is also because they do not mention seed has to be bought every year (not a common thing in the developing world) and they are not told how much more expensive the GM seed is compared to conventional. The farmer is told it means less weeding and pest control, but isn’t told how vastly much more chemical he will have to buy (and only the chemical the GMO company produces!) or how lethal they really are. By the end of the first season, good yield or not the farmer is in debt but has to buy for next year. Any thoughts of turning back to conventional crops are dashed by the GMO company offering loans which further gets them in a downward spiral debt.

In Europe we may think we are safe but far from it, apart from most of our animals for meat and dairy products being fed on imported GM feeds without any requirement for labelling our politicians (the ones who won’t touch GM for anything) are doing all they can to push the GM agenda. Do not for one minute believe anything to the opposite from anything you have read in the corrupt media. News that European states are to be allowed to make their own decisions on whether to allow GM to be grown in their countries (14.07.10) should be a wake-up call for us all to redouble our efforts to prevent them ever coming. But Spain, Portugal and some Eastern European countries already grow some GM on a large scale. ANY STATE IN EUROPE THAT GROWS GM, PUTS EVERY OTHER STATES’ ORGANIC & CONVENTIONAL CROPS & WILDLIFE AT RISK and any damage will be irreversible. GM contamination can travel far, it is not just 10km or 50km but thousands of kms as proven by the Mexican and Canadian crop contamination cases.

THREATS TO EUROPE AND UK FROM GM LINKS:

Europe will now grow gmo crops everywhere, due to cross-contamination it will result in organic & conventional food wipe-out. Monsanto legally owns all contaminated crops

EU TO ALLOW GM CROPS

Environment Secretary Owen Paterson pushes GM in UK and EU

To top all this off the hypocrisy and arrogance of the GMO companies is staggering as they often change a species DNA by a very tiny amount by inserting a bit of DNA from an unrelated organism and claim it as a new life form and patent it. This totally ignores the millions of years nature put in and the often thousands of years of conventional selective breeding effort by native farmers in the country of the species origin. The US courts however back the GMO companies and because of the World Trade Organisation adopting these US laws they are in force worldwide. Yet the same US Supreme Court recently ruled the exact opposite with regard to human DNA, stating it cannot ever be patented! Then the GM companies claim a totally opposite view for not labelling their products, saying there is no essential difference between their GM creations and those of conventional agriculture crops.

IF YOU DID NOT FIGHT TO STOP GMOs THEN YOU REALLY SHOULDN’T COMPLAIN WHEN YOU OR SOMEONE YOU LOVE GETS ILL! BUT IT IS NOT TOO LATE, FOLLOW THESE STEPS.
