Taolagnaro (Fort Dauphine) is a short flight from Antananarivo and Berenty Private Reserve is located 80km W, reached by a three hours bus ride on bad roads. Sakalava Weavers and Namaqua Doves may be seen on the way. In this gallery forest on the River Mandrake it is possible to find Madagascar Sandgrouse, Giant Coua, Madagascar Green Pigeon, Barn Owl, White-browed Owls and Torotoroka Scops Owl. Madagascar Cuckoo-Hawk occurs but is difficult to find.

Ring-tailed Lemur Lemur catta are numerous and Verreaux’s Sifaka’s Propithecus verreauxi can also be found, night walks can turn up White-footed Sportive Lemur Lepilemur leucopus and Grey Mouse Lemur Microcebus murinus and Reddish-grey Mouse Lemur Microcebus griseorufus.
