Birding Site Guide

Following the purchase of cheap tickets from Ryan Air (less than £10 but more for airport tax) a small group of us headed to Finland for some ticks. Most birds were seen at garden feeders in Oulu (unless otherwise stated), which is in the west of Finland on the north-eastern edge of the Gulf of Bothnia. The main attraction being the northern species not found in Britain such as Azure and Siberian Tit (Azure Tit is rare here and was a twitch, and we were helped by a local birder who we had arranged to meet), Pine Grosbeak and the owls. As a bonus we twitched a Dusky Thrush at another place.

We briefly birded 2 other much more southernly sites: Pori and Tampere, with the species seen there shown on this list.
