Observed from Swinefleet gate with 10x binoculars for about 4 minutes and then with Nikon scope with 45x zoom for about 5 more minutes. First observed as I had just scanned to right (N) over second field (about 300m away) heading S towards Goole Moor. It turned more SW and headed for the part of the moors where Goole Fields come furthest S into N edge of Goole Moor, it flew with buoyant flight never at same level and seemed almost like a small gull (say BH Gull) in this respect. As it approached the moor edge it again climbed in height, but then sharply turned and headed NW staying about 50 to 200m away from moor edge and then heading directly W. As it flew over the third field from me (with rape in) it doubled back about 150m or so but then resumed W dropping in height till lost in distance (now about 1 km) and haze and behind lie of land. DESCRIPTION. Obvious small harrier with very slim, uniform width streaked body, uniform un-streaked vent, long barred tail and small white rump. Wings very obviously tapered to an almost pointed hand. Flight light with steep easy climbs and long straight drift down, almost like a child’s kite. The upper coverts were very clearly pale and contrasted with the rest of the darker wing. There was no bar on the upperwing (a feature for a 2nd calendar bird), the underwing was black and white barred but the secondaries were darker (a feature for a 2nd calendar bird). The small head had very striking white above and below the eye visible at long range and enhanced by the darker ear coverts. There was no (pale) neck collar.
