The supposed Rough-legged Buzzard was relocated in the same fields and this time afforded long views with a scope. It was determined that this extreme pale buzzard, which looked like a white blob in the hedgerow, was in fact the whitest Common Buzzard I have ever seen. It took over an hour of careful observation and confirmation of features between both of us to be absolutely sure, the main feature against RLB being the tail which appeared to have a broad terminal dark band with an equally broad white band above. On careful looks it was determined that the upper tail though almost white was in fact very pale brown and its rump was actually the white band. Another feature equally diagnostic was pale tips to the greater coverts forming an obvious bar. It was also noted its behaviour was more CB than RLB. This RLB record has been removed (RJS, BPW).
